This article applies to:
- EQ installed directly onto an Apple Mac (not hosted or EQ Flex cloud versions)
- Apple Macs with Intel processors. Running Windows 10 or 11 and EQ on an M-series processor powered Mac is not possible. The exception is if you are accessing a remote (Windows) server.
This article does not apply to EQ Flex hosted customers using a web browser to access. See EQ Flex requirements for browser access instead.
Remote desktop client access on macOS
If you are using a remote hosted server (i.e. terminal server) provided by Cyncly or your IT provider, there is no need to have Windows installed on your Mac. You will be able to access the server desktop using Microsoft Remote Desktop Client which can be downloaded for your Mac: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/microsoft-remote-desktop-10/id1295203466?mt=12
EQ installed on a Mac
Running any version of EQ requires a full installation of Windows using either of the following methods. Please note EQ Support cannot provide macOS specific technical support.
Method 1 - Run Windows in a virtual machine
Simultaneous switching of Windows and macOS.
- Use software such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox which creates a virtual PC.
- You can switch between Windows applications and Mac applications at the same time.
- For office applications there is unlikely to be any noticeable slowdown using EQ. A virtual PC would not be suitable for gaming.
Method 2 - Run Windows separately from macOS
Requires reboot to switch between Windows and macOS.
- Use software called Boot Camp (made by Apple, included in macOS).
- Boot Camp allows you to dual boot between Windows and macOS.
- This method can be faster in use, and would be more suitable for gaming. However it requires you to restart the computer to switch between the two, and Windows will not be able to access files saved on macOS.
No CD/DVD drive? Note about downloading Windows
Many modern Macs may have no built-in optical disc drive so installing Windows from DVD (in either of the options below) would not be possible. Note that if you purchase a Windows licence online from the Microsoft Store that your purchase will require another Windows PC to open your purchase and create a “disc image” (also called ISO file) that you can use to install Windows on your Mac.
Right-clicking tips
There are several ways to right-click on a Mac:
- You can use the Control button with the mouse click
- On trackpads you can use 2 fingers to click or click the right-hand side (see your macOS preferences)
- You can use any multi-button mouse that will connect to your Mac
