Add a shortcut to the Windows taskbar
13th January 2023:
A Microsoft Defender rule was released which deleted user's shortcuts to Microsoft and other third party software. You should follow the below instructions to re-create your EQ shortcut if you were affected by this. Microsoft explains other methods to recover other icons, for IT admins in this article.
Add a desktop shortcut
These instructions assume EQ is installed in the default folder on the C: drive of your own computer.
- On your Windows taskbar, click the yellow folder to open Windows Explorer:
- On the left side click This PC.
This will show folders and hard drives on your computer. - Double-click the drive labelled (C:)
- Double-click the folder Program Files (x86)
- Double-click the folder Easyquote4
- Scroll down to find easyquote.exe and right-click it. Select Send to and pick Desktop (create shortcut)
Close Windows Explorer and see your desktop, where there will be a new shortcut with the EQ icon. - If you want to change the name (e.g. to remove the word "shortcut"), right-click on the desktop icon and select Rename. Type a new name and press Enter.
Add a shortcut to the Windows taskbar
- Open EQ as usual, or by creating a desktop shortcut as above.
- When EQ is open, right-click the icon on your task and pick Pin to taskbar:
- You can drag and drop the icon left or right to put it into a different position.
Now the icon will remain when you close EQ, so it can be re-opened by clicking back on the icon.
